I know it's a little late for a year in review...people usually do these right before new years...but I didn't officially decide to do a blog until a day ago when I was making my list of things I want to accomplish for the year....so here I am, and I want to go over the past year. It was a year of ups and downs for sure.
(Of course my first blog is going to be a novel. My appologies.)
We began the year by going out and visiting my friend Lauren in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was a GREAT trip. had lots of fun, and it was great spending time with Lauren. She's always been one of the people that truly gets me and always knows EXACTLY what to say. always fun times with her.
The next big event was Cayce having Evie. I remember right before it happened I freaked out. You would have thought that I was the one about to have a baby, not my friend. I even cried. I wasn't ready for this....my friend can't have a BABY!...that means we're grown ups now (and I def don't feel like one). For some reason all of my friends getting married last year didn't bother me...but the baby thing...well it took some getting used to. And on April 30, Eva Ruth Scofield was born. and I love her! I've NEVER been a baby person, in fact, if you know me at all you know that they freak me out (and I know this is because I was never around them growing up, didn't have all that many cousins that were that much younger than me, and I never babysat growing up, so I just don't know what to do with them). But lil Evus has slowly made me realize that baby's might not be so bad (although I still am unsure about whether I want any of my own...and Evie's still pretty much the only baby I'll have anything to do with).
In May I lost my grandfather. I know it sounds corny, but he really was my hero. If you knew this man you would understand why I say that. He had a joy for life that I have never seen before. He was grateful for every day and every thing. He triumphed over so many obstacles....a heart attack....losing a leg to diabetes...a stroke...and he kept fighting until the very end. Words can't express how much I love him and how much I miss him. It's been very hard learning to live without him in my life...I would see him nearly every day, and I'll still catch myself expecting to see him when I go in to eat dinner or say goodbye at night, and it always breaks my heart when I realize he's no longer there. But, time heals all wounds...I know that I will always miss him, and love him, and he will NEVER be forgotten. Love ya pop!
A couple months later we took a road trip up to Minnesota to see my friend Natalie. I finally did it!!! I told her I would one day, but I don't think she believed me...it did take me a while haha. It was a nice long trip...I love road trips because you get to see and do and experience sooooo much more, than if you were to just fly there and back. We stopped in Louisville to see Forest's grandparents....went to a cubs game in Chicago....visited his aunt and uncle while we were in MN, they lived about 45 minutes away from Natalie so that worked out great. The weather up there was BEAUTIFUL! A great relief from the scorching temps in the south. We went to the lake, walked around the campus, had some awesome milkshakes, went out on the town, watched some Ellen (we had to, it's our tradition), and saw the Mall of America (which is really....just a really big mall.......although the butterfly exhibit was neat)....then we stopped in Wisconsin for some cheese...and I lost my phone....then came back home. It was a great trip...and I'm ready to go on another....think we're going to try to go to Austin this year!
We also took a couple trips to the beach. My family rented a condo on Harbor Island in Beaufort for a week. I love Beaufort. Such a beautiful, easy-going place. I could live there (Forest said the same!)....Then I went with my fam on our yearly trip to the Isle of Palms. Forest had to work so Anna came with me! It was just like old times!!! some things never change. and I love that!
Then another HUGE thing happened. I WENT BACK TO SCHOOL!!!! yes! I'm going to Piedmont Tech for a certificate in advertising design. I just kind of up and did it, without even really thinking about it. Now, I know it's just a certificate program at tech....and not a degree...but it's still something right? and I'm enjoying it! The whole school thing has been a MAJOR obstacle for me for so long. After attempting 3 different schools...and dropping out every time, I didn't have the most confidence about it...but I found something I was interested in and decided to just DO IT ALREADY! turns out I'm pretty good (or at least decent) at it, so who knows...we'll just see where it goes! It was a little tough because I'm on the road all the time. and I mean ALL. THE. TIME. and this coming semester will be 10 xs worse because I'm taking more classes, including an online class (which I am extremely nervous about), which means I will now be driving to Greenwood 4 times a week instead of 2 like this past semester. I'm only going to be able to work around 20 hours a week...and thats if I don't take a day off...so it's definitely going to be rough. But, you gotta do what ya gotta do right?
Overall it was a good year. Tough. But good. I learned a lot about myself this year...what I'm capable of...a little of who I am...what I care about...and what's important in life. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing and supportive group of people in my life. My family and friends are my life and I really don't know what I'd do, or where I would be without them...and I love them all so so terribly much....and I hope they know that. So here's to the new year. I'll have my list of things for the year on my next post....and an introductory type thing (I know I'm doing this backwards).
